On July 16, 2024, the Philippine government introduced a groundbreaking initiative aimed at simplifying the entry process for foreign tourists traveling on cruise ships. This new cruise visa waiver program was officially launched in Pasay City, with Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco leading the announcement.

Key Highlights of the Cruise Visa Waiver Program

Seamless Entry Process

• Eligible foreigners can now apply for the cruise visa waiver via the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) e-services portal at BI E-Services Portal.

• The waiver facilitates a smoother entry into the Philippines, enhancing the overall travel experience for international cruise passengers.

Boosting Tourism

• The initiative is expected to significantly increase the number of cruise passengers visiting the Philippines. In 2023, the country welcomed 123 port calls, bringing in over 101,000 passengers. This year, projections estimate at least 117 port calls with more than 118,000 visitors.

• Secretary Frasco highlighted that the program aligns with the country's national cruise tourism development strategy and the government's commitment to digitalization.

• Ben Line Agencies Marine Agency Services Director and Vice President, Capt. Terence Uytingban, praised the initiative as a "big step forward" for the Philippines' cruise tourism sector.
