Pintaflores Festival of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. In our blog post published on October 26, we delve into this vibrant festival, where floral artistry, cultural pride, and rhythmic performances come together in an unforgettable celebration.

Pintaflores Festival: A Celebration of Art and Culture

The Pintaflores Festival (Nov. 3-5, 2024) is a unique annual event in San Carlos City, commemorated with colorful floral body paint and festive dances. It honors the city’s patron saint, St. Charles Borromeo, and showcases the city’s history and cultural heritage, blending indigenous art forms with Spanish colonial influences. “Pinta” means to paint, and “Flores” means flowers, representing the festival’s central theme of blooming floral motifs.

Festival Highlights

  • Street Dancing: One of the main attractions, the Pintaflores street dance, sees participants adorned in colorful costumes and floral body paint, dancing to lively beats. Each dancer’s intricate costume reflects floral designs inspired by the region’s native blooms, creating a dynamic and visually stunning parade that celebrates the unity of art and nature.

  • Floral Body Art: Artists carefully paint floral patterns on performers, capturing the essence of Pintaflores as a festival of life, beauty, and creativity. This floral artistry honors the legacy of indigenous Visayan tattooing, blending it with the beauty of natural flora, making each participant a living, breathing work of art.

  • Ritual Dance Competitions: Groups from different schools and organizations compete in ritual dances, reenacting tales of resilience and growth. This part of the festival offers a deeper connection to San Carlos City’s history, while showcasing the participants’ dedication and talent in preserving their cultural roots.

Travel Tips

  • Best Time to Visit: The festival occurs during the first week of November, coinciding with San Carlos City’s Charter Day. Plan to arrive early to enjoy all events and explore the local area.

The Pulse: Senate and Government Offices Suspend Work for Undas Observance

UNDAS - With Undas just around the corner, we wanted to share some key updates on holiday schedules for those observing All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days. The Senate of the Philippines, along with various government offices, has adjusted work schedules to allow employees more time for travel and observance of this important tradition.

Senate Work Suspension on October 31, 2024

Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero announced that Senate employees will not need to report to work on October 31, 2024. This will give Senate officers and staff extra time for their Undas preparations and observances. However, personnel from the Office of the Sergeant-At-Arms and the Maintenance and General Services Bureau who are scheduled to work will still be on duty to ensure security and maintenance.

National Government and School Schedule Adjustments

In addition to the Senate’s work suspension, Malacañang has declared All Saints’ Day (November 1) and All Souls’ Day (November 2) as special non-working holidays nationwide. On October 31, work in government offices and classes at all levels will be suspended from noon onwards. This adjustment is aimed at giving employees ample time to travel to their hometowns to be with family during Undas.

Observing Undas

The Undas holidays are a deeply rooted tradition for many Filipinos, serving as a time to honor departed loved ones through visits to cemeteries, prayers, and family gatherings. This extended break provides an opportunity for everyone to reconnect with family and reflect on memories shared with those who have passed.

We wish everyone safe travels and meaningful observances during this special time. Stay tuned for more updates and insights in your next Finding Utopia newsletter.
